ÖGBMT Webinar-Reihe „Biomedical Engineering Updates”
Wir freuen uns sehr, unsere neue Webinar-Reihe zu starten! Darin möchten wir monatlich aktuelle Entwicklungen und Innovationen im Bereich der Biomedizinischen Technik vor den Vorhang holen, den Blick aber auch über den Tellerrand richten und somit den wissenschaftlichen Austausch innerhalb der Gesellschaft auch außerhalb unserer Jahrestagung anregen. Für ÖGBMT-Mitglieder ist die Teilnahme am Webinar kostenlos. Das erste Webinar findet bereits heute statt:

Vorstandsklausur 2026
Der Vorstand der ÖGBMT und die Leiter:innen unserer Arbeitsgruppen trafen sich am 8.6. in Bad Fischau zur jährlichen Klausurtagung, um in konstruktiver Atmosphäre über die aktuelle Entwicklung der Biomedizinischen Technik in Österreich sowie die Aktivitäten der ÖGBMT und ihrer Arbeitsgruppen zu beraten. Dabei wurden auch konkrete Ideen und Maßnahmen diskutiert und beschlossen, die wir in den kommenden Monaten umsetzen werden. Sie dürfen also gespannt sein…
Stefan Schuy-Preis 2026
Die Einreichfrist für Bewerberinnen und Bewerber um den Stefan Schuy-Preis 2026 ist abgelaufen und wir freuen uns über die große Zahl an Einreichungen. In Kürze beginnt die Jury mit ihrer Arbeit. Wir freuen uns schon jetzt auf den Vortrag der Gewinnerin oder des Gewinners im Rahmen des Faculty Days der Fakultät für Informatik und Biomedizinische Technik der TU Graz, bei der auch die Verleihung des Preises stattfinden wird. Ein sehr passender Rahmen, ist doch die TU Graz die Wiege der ÖGBMT.

ÖGBMT – organisatorische Arbeitsgruppen
Die ersten organisatorischen Arbeitsgruppen starten bereits mit Schwung in ihre neuen Aufgaben. Wir hoffen, bald über erste Ergebnisse berichten zu können.
Sollten Sie ebenfalls Interesse haben, an Themen wie Kommunikation und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit, Mitgliederwesen, Nachwuchsförderung oder Aus- und Weiterbildung mitzuwirken, melden Sie sich gern bei der Geschäftsstelle: office@oegbmt.at.
AG Regulatory Affairs
Die AG Regulatory Affairs beschäftigt sich derzeit intensiv mit dem Entwurf zur Überarbeitung der MDR, der derzeit für Stellungnahmen aufliegt. Bei diesem Vorschlag scheint es allerdings im Zuge der sehr begrüßenswerten Vereinfachungen zu einem bedrohlichen Fehler gekommen zu sein: Artikel 82, der bisher klinische akademische Grundlagen- und Prototypen-Studien gegenüber CE-Mark-Studien vereinfacht hat, soll gestrichen werden! Dieser Vorschlag muss aus unserer Sicht dringendst geändert werden, da er Innovation, rasche Patient:innenhilfe und europäische Aktivitäten zur Entwicklung von Medizinprodukten massiv beschädigen würde. Dazu haben wir bei der gemeinsamen Jahrestagung der ÖGMP und ÖGBMT im April einen Workshop und in weiterer Folge einige Online-Meetings mit mehr als 20 Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmern veranstaltet. Derzeit bereiten wir eine entsprechende Stellungnahme vor und sind dabei in enger Abstimmung mit anderen Gesellschaften und Institutionen, um möglichst breite Unterstützung demonstrieren zu können und dem Statement noch mehr Gewicht zu verleihen. Einreichschluss für Stellungnahmen zur MDR-Neufassung ist aktuell Ende Juli.

Daniel Baumgarten in EAMBES Council gewählt
Unser Präsident Daniel Baumgarten ist in das Council der EAMBES (European Alliance for Medical and Biological Engineering and Science) für die Periode 2026 – 2028 gewählt worden. Neben Winfried Mayr, der dem Gremium bereits seit mehreren Jahren angehört, ist er damit der zweite Vertreter Österreichs. Die EAMBES ist die europäische Dachorganisation der nationalen Fachgesellschaften für Biomedizinische Technik und vertritt die Interessen des Faches innerhalb der Europäischen Union sowie nach außen als translationale Mitgliedsorganisation der IFMBE.

2026 Executive Committee Retreat
The ÖGBMT Executive Committee and the leaders of our working groups met on 8 June in Bad Fischau for their annual retreat to discuss, in a constructive atmosphere, current developments in biomedical engineering in Austria as well as the activities of the ÖGBMT and its working groups. During the meeting, specific ideas and measures were also discussed and agreed upon, which we will be implementing in the coming months. So stay tuned…
Stefan Schuy Prize 2026
The deadline for applications for the Stefan Schuy Prize 2026 has passed, and we are delighted with the large number of entries received. The jury will begin its deliberations shortly. We are already looking forward to the winner’s presentation as part of Faculty Day at the Faculty of Computer Science and Biomedical Engineering at Graz University of Technology, where the award ceremony will also take place. This is a very fitting setting, given that Graz University of Technology is the birthplace of the ÖGBMT.

The first organisational working groups are already getting off to a flying start with their new tasks. We hope to be able to report on the initial results soon.

Regulatory Affairs Working Group
The Regulatory Affairs Working Group is currently focusing intensively on the draft revision of the MDR, which is currently open for comments. However, it appears that, in the course of the very welcome simplifications, a serious error has crept into this proposal: Article 82, which has hitherto simplified clinical academic basic and prototype studies compared to CE marking studies, is to be deleted! In our view, this proposal must be amended as a matter of the utmost urgency, as it would cause massive damage to innovation, the rapid provision of patient care and European activities aimed at developing medical devices. To this end, we organised a workshop at the joint annual conference of the ÖGMP and ÖGBMT in April, followed by a number of online meetings with more than 20 participants. We are currently preparing a statement on this matter and are working in close consultation with other societies and institutions in order to demonstrate the broadest possible support and lend even greater weight to the statement. The deadline for submitting comments on the revised MDR is currently the end of July.

Daniel Baumgarten elected to the EAMBES Council
Our President, Daniel Baumgarten, has been elected to the Council of EAMBES (European Alliance for Medical and Biological Engineering and Science) for the term 2026–2028. Alongside Winfried Mayr, who has been a member of the Council for several years, he is now Austria’s second representative. EAMBES is the European umbrella organisation for national professional societies in biomedical engineering and represents the interests of the discipline within the European Union and externally as a translational member organisation of the IFMBE.
